Paddle the Scenic Dora Canal

We invite you to discover the scenic waterways of the Lake Harris Chain of Lakes. This is the largest Chain of Lakes in the state of Florida!

We are located on the shores of Lake Dora, less than a half mile from the scenic Dora Canal. The Dora Canal is a vibrant stretch of waterway that connects Lake Dora with Lake Eustis in the Harris Chain. Paddling this mile long canal in Lake County takes you back in time to experience the real Florida. Large cypress trees dressed in Spanish moss line the canal, providing a thick canopy of welcomed shade from the Florida heat.

Native wildlife you could see on your paddle includes birds like anhinga (snake bird), cormorants, great blue herons, egrets, limpkins, hawks, osprey, and bald eagles.  Various reptiles that inhabit this canal include turtles and alligators. River otters can be spotted on occasion.

Paddle Route

Our paddle route takes you on an exciting 3-mile roundtrip paddle including the Dora Canal from our waterfront location on Lake Dora. Most paddlers need about two hours to complete this out and back route.

For half day trips, a stop at Fishcamp on Lake Eustis for lunch or a cold beverage, is a perfect way to spend a day on the water. This local lakefront restaurant has great food and a very friendly atmosphere that we absolutely love!

The Harris Chain of Lakes is very popular for all watercrafts including motorboats. Motor boat traffic is usually heaviest on the weekends, so if you're looking for a peaceful paddle, the morning hours are the quietest on the canal. We recommend starting as early as possible on the weekends. Trust Us! It's worth waking up early to beat the crowds!
